On the Function of the Great Wall in the Development of the Chinese National Community
The construction history of the Great Wall is a history of the development of the Chinese national community.The Great Wall is not only a military defense line,but with the evolution of history,its connotation and extension have been expanded.The Great Wall has become a belt passage with a certain spatial range.In modern times,the Great Wall has also evolved into a representative symbol of the Chinese nation.The Great Wall witnesses the process of the unity and development of various ethnic groups in China,from separation,competition to interaction and integration between the agricultural and nomadic peoples inside and outside the Great Wall.It interprets the formation process of the Chinese national community and is a historical narrative of the Chinese country and the Chinese nation.The functions and values of the Great Wall,the Great Wall Belt,and the Great Wall symbols in the development of the Chinese national community can be explained from three dimensions.Firstly,the wars between the agricultural and nomadic peoples inside and outside the Great Wall accelerated the political maturity of various ethnic groups,catalyzed the construction of early dynasty states in China,established the political order of the Great Wall Belt,and created the national view of the Chinese nation.Secondly,the interaction between politics,economy,and ethnic groups within and outside the Great Wall has promoted ethnic exchanges and integration.Thirdly,the cohesion of political symbols and the expression of symbolic significance of the Great Wall since modern times have promoted the development of the Chinese national community from"freedom"to"consciousness".The three dimensions are both three important stages and three important nodes in the evolution of the Great Wall's functions.Through the analysis of the national construction function,ethnic integration function,and political and cultural function of the Great Wall,the Great Wall Belt,and the symbolic symbols of the Great Wall,the aim is to better play the significance and value of the Great Wall in building a Chinese national community.It is necessary to grasp the historical narrative and discourse power of the Great Wall from the perspective of the Chinese national community.
