Molecular Marker-Assisted Selection of Wxmp Gene for Improving Rice Quality of Late Japonica Rice Ning 84
In order to improve the rice quality of the late Japonica variety Ning 84 and to cultivate a new japonica rice line with low amylose content,we used the rice variety Nanjing 9108,which carries the softer rice gene Wxmp,as the donor pa-rent,and the late Japonica variety Ning 84 as the recipient parent, and backcross-transferred the Wxmp gene to Ning 84 by using a functional molecular marker, and created an improved line of Ning 84(Wxmp).The agronomic traits of Ning 84(Wxmp)improved line did not differ significantly from those of Ning 84,and the background recovery rate of which reached 98.7%.Compared with Ning 84,the amylose content of Ning 84(Wxmp)was reduced from 17%to 10%,the gel consisten-cy increased from 70 mm to 80 mm,the chalkiness and chalky white grain rate of the improved line increased significantly, the transparency decreased significantly, the alkaline elimination value remained unchanged, the whole and polished rice rate was significantly higher than that of the control. The taste quality was significantly improved. The successful breeding of Ning 84(Wxmp)improved lines has laid a good foundation for the selection and promotion of japonica softer rice in the future.
