Identification of Brevibacillus laterosporus JYC 688 against potato common scab and its growth promoting characteristics
Potato common scab(PCS)disease is a soil-borne disease caused by a variety of pathogenic Streptomyces spp.,which lead to the surface scab and the deterioration of the appearance quality of potato tuber.Screening biocontrol bacteria with good antagonistic effects may provide excellent microbial resources for biological control of potato diseases. In this study, strain JYC 688 was isolated from the rhizosphere soil of healthy potato plants, its antagonistic activity was determined by plate confrontation and paper plate methods, its classification status was identified using morphological observation, physiological and biochemical characterization, and molecular biology methods, its ability to produce hydrolytic enzymes and iron carriers was also tested. The results showed that strain JYC 688 was Brevibacillus laterosporus, and its liquid fermentation could significantly inhibit the growth of Streptomyces acidiscabies and SS.turgidiscabies, with inhibition zone diameters of 27.86 mm and 31.90 mm,respectively. It also had good inhibitory activity against Phytophthora infestans,Alternaria alternata and Rhizoctonia solani. The strain JYC 688 could secrete β-1,3 glucanase, cellulase, protease, ferritin, and other antibacterial related substances, and dissolve three insoluble compounds of soybean lecithin, calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate, which is conducive to the release of three elements of phosphorus, calcium and magnesium. In conclusion, the strain JYC 688 is a potential biocontrol bacterium with good research value.
