Status and suggestions for weed control in sesame fields in China
The occurrence and control status of weeds in sesame producing areas of China were investigated. The results revealed that there are 86 weed species across 31 families and 15 commonly used herbicides in sesame fields in China.Notably, controlling broad-leaved weeds proved challenging. It is difficult to control weeds in sesame fields because of the weak research foundation and the scarcity of available herbicides. To address these issues,it is suggested to increase basic research, attach importance to herbicide screening and registration, strengthen herbicide-resistant breeding, expedite research and development, and industrialization of plant protection machinery, and promote standardized prevention and control technologies focusing on safeguarding the sesame field ecosystem.
