Occurrence status and control strategies of weeds in paddy fields in Anhui province
Anhui province is one of the main rice-producing regions in China.Located in the transitional zone between the north and south, along the Yangtze River near the Huai River,it boasts a prominent geographical advantage with diverse geographic and climatic environments.Different communities with varying distributions of noxious weeds, such as barnyard grass(Echinochloa crus-galli),Chinese sprangletop(Leptochloa chinensis),common crabgrass(Digitaria sanguinalis),and weedy rice(Oryza sativa),have gradually formed in different rice planting areas. These communities undergo succession with ongoing cultivation and production activities, posing a serious threat to both the yield and quality of rice.Currently, the control of weeds in rice fields in Anhui province is still mainly based on chemical control. The phenomenon of high-frequency and excessive use of single chemical herbicides for many years is prominent, leading to a series of problems such as agricultural non-point source pollution, pesticide residues, and herbicide resistance. These issues pose severe challenges to the stable yield and increased income of rice,as well as the sustainable control of weeds.Based on preliminary tracking, monitoring, investigations, and visits, the authors have analyzed the occurrence, damage, and current situation of weed control in rice fields in Anhui province.Furthermore, the authors proposed strategies and suggestions to address the issues existing in the current weed control practices, aiming to provide scientific insights for weed control in rice fields.
