Safety evaluation of four seed coating agents on maize and its control effect on fall armyworm,Spodoptera frugiperda
Fall armyworm,Spodoptera frugiperda,is a vital migratory invasive pest, which poses a serious threat to maize production in China. In order to clarify the safety of compound seed coating agent on maize and the control effect on S.frugiperda in maize seedling stage, field experiments were carried out in autumn of 2022 and spring of 2023 with four kinds of seed coating agents, namely, chlorantraniliprole·clothianidin 48%FSC,thiodicarb·clothianidin 48%FSC,cyantraniliprole·thiamethoxam 40%FS and chlorantraniliprole·carbaryl 42%FSC.The key growth parameters of maize emergence and seedling stage, the rate of damaged plant, the level of damaged leaf, and the control effect on S.frugiperda were analyzed. The results showed that the four seed coating agents had no adverse effects on maize emergence, and the growth and development of maize plants, indicating it was safe to maize plants. The control effect of four seed coating agents on S.frugiperda was significant at 14 days after maize emergence(P<0.05),and cyantraniliprole·thiamethoxam 40%FS and chlorantraniliprole·carbaryl 42%FSC showed better control effect and prolonged efficacy against S.frugiperda.
