Objective To study the cause and variety of side effects after laser photocoagulation for retinopathy of prematurity(ROP) infants and to provide effective nursing basis for preventing the side effects. Methods To investigate the cause and variety of the side effects and summarize nursing experience ,the clinical data of 171 ROP infants from October 2008 to October 2013 were retrospectively analyzed. Results 113(66.1%) infants had no side effect after laser photocoagulation, but 58(33.9%) infants had side effect including pale(27 infants, 46.6%),apnea(3 infants,5.2%),gastrointestinal hemorrhage(1 infants,1.6%), acute conjunctivitis(8 infants,13.8%),corneal edema(10 infants,17.2%),iris burn(7 infants ,12.1%) and lenticular opacities(2 infants,3.5%).Conclusions pale, corneal edema, acute conjunctivitis, iris burns and apnea are the most common side effects after laser photocoagulation. Comprehensive,high-quality nursing can ensure the success of laser photocoagulation and decrease the side effect of laser photocoagulation.
