The centralized management of surgical instruments in sterile supply department
Objective The aim of this study is to investigate the role of centralized management in the surgical instrument of sterile supply department. Methods The 2000 surgical instruments col ected from April 2010 to January 2011 was the control group. It was treated by the traditional cleaning process. The 2000 surgical instruments col ected from February 2011 to November 2011 was the observation group. It was treated by the centralized management in the sterile supply department. At last, the cleaning effect of two groups, packaging sterilization cases and investigations comparison clinician satisfaction after treatment of surgical instruments. Results The rate of cleaning equipment failure of control group was 24%, while the rate of observation group only was 1.3%. It was significantly lower than in the control group (P <0.01).The rate of instrument sterilization failure of control group was 6.05%, while the rate of observation group was only 1.35%, and it was lower than the control group significantly. In additions, 92% of doctors satisfied with the instrument of observation group, while only 36% of doctors satisfied with the control group. Conclusion Centralized management can improve the quality of cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments. It can control the infections effectively, and it should be introduced.
