Objective:To investigate the efficacy of Foley catheters for lavage,drainage and decompression on preventing anastomotic leakage and intestinal fistula after total mesorectal execision(TME) for rectal carcinomas.Method::Review and analyze 97case during January 1995 - December 2012 , fol ow the concept of damage control surgery(DCS),Foley catheters were placed in the colonic cavity and presacral cavity,in order to prevention and cure of leakage after operation for rectal cance .Results:There were no death and permanent colostomy.Conclusion :Rational use of Foley catheter can be effective in preventing anastomotic leakage and intestinal fistula, economical and practical.
