Results on Ivor-lewis Esophagecto my for 48 cases of carcinoma of esophagus
OBJECTIVE:This study was to assess the clinical outcomes of lvorLewis esophagectomy with two·field lymph node dissection for squamous cellcarcinoma of the middle and lower thoracic esophagus. METHODS:Clinical data of 48patients with squamous cellcarcinoma of the middle and Iower thoracic esophagus who underwent Ivor Lewis esophagectomy with two-field lymph node dissection from Dec.2009 to Nov.2010 were analyzed retrospectively. RESULTS:Thetotal resectability was 100%. Lymph node metastaseswere found in 35 cases (72.9%) .Of the 48 patients,2 were at stage I,17 at stage I ,35at stage I I. and 4 at stage IV. The morbidity ofpostoperative complications was 16.7% .Noanastomotic leakage, norpostoperative death .CONCLUSION: Ivor-Lewis esophagectomy with two·field lymph node dissection for squamous cellcarcinoma of the middle and lower thoracic esophagus is a safe operation.
