Paying attention to threat of baluchistan melon fly to the watermelon and melon industry in Xinjiang
Baluchistan melon fly,Myiopardalis pardalina(Bigot)is a serious quarantine pest of cucur-bitaceae plants,especially to watermelon and melon.Once the pest enters Xinjiang,it could cause eco-nomic losses of about 2.54-6.76 billion yuan per year.This paper introduces the morphological character-istics,distribution range,host plants,hazards,monitoring and control measures of the baluchistan melon fly,analyzes the risk of its introduction and the potential losses to the watermelon and melon industry in Xinjiang,and puts forward prevention and control suggestions.
