Identification of two species of whiteflies(Hemiptera:Aleyrodidae)infesting Oryza sativa from Enping,Guangdong
In 2018-2023,the samples of whitefly pests on rice in Enping regions of Guangdong were col-lected,the puparium and adult slide specimens were made for detailed observation.Combined with the scanning electron microscope(SEM)observation and identified by comparative morphological studies.It was determined that the two whitefly pests harming rice in Guangdong which were Bemisia formosana Takahashi and Vasdavidium indicus(David & Subramaniam).The morphological characteristics of the pu-parium of the two whitefly species were redescribed,and the host plants,geographical distribution infor-mation,ecological photos,hazard photos and slide specimen photos were provided.In addition,this study observed and recorded the biology and occurrence of these two kinds of rice whiteflies in Enping,Guang-dong Province.The results clarified some wrong identification of rice whitefly in China,and provide a scientific basis for the accurate identification and control of whitefly pests on rice.
