Survey on risk of spreading red imported fire ant in flowers and greening seedlings
Long distance transmission of red imported fire ants are mainly transmitted through the trans-ported flowers and greening seedlings. To understand the risk of spreading red imported fire ants in dif-ferent flowers and greening seedlings, this study investigated the occurrence of the red imported fire ants on 114 species of flowers and greening seedlings in 12 flower and tree farms in Nanning,Guangxi,Chi-na.The result indicated that red imported fire ants occurred commonly in different flowers and greening seedlings. Both the incidence rate and live ants nest density in farm H were the highest,at 43.62%and 0.7 per square metre, respectively. The incidence rate of the red imported fire ants on 33 species of plants, such as Ficus microcarpa,Bauhinia purpurea,Duranta erecta, exceeded 10%,accounting for 28.95%of the host species. The incidence rate exceeded 40%in Senna bicapsularis,Callistemon hybridus,Brachy-chiton acerifolius, and other 3 kinds of seedlings. The incidence rate of Senna bicapsularis was up to 100%.So,urgently need to intensify control the ants in flower and tree farms,to reduce the risk of transmission and diffusion of red imported fire ants through flowers and greening seedlings transport, and protect the ecological environments and agricultural production safety.
