Effects of rootstocks on growth and fruit quality of wine grapevine
The widely-used wine grapevine cultivars in Ningxia such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay were grafted on SO4 and 5BB rootstocks and the effects of rootstocks on growth and berry quality were evaluated. The results showed that for the same scion cultivar, 5BB rootstock had a higher winter survival rate than SO4 and showed better affinity. SO4 and 5BB rootstock increased berry weight of Cabernet Sauvignon significantly but had no obvious effect on panicle weight of three varieties. 5BB stock raised soluble solids content of Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, reduced the titratable acid content of Chardonnay and Merlot; SO4 rootstock decreased soluble solids content of three varieties significantly, increased the acid content of Cabernet sauvignon. In general, 5BB improved fruit quality, and SO4 decreased quality or delayed maturation.
