Research advances on plant miPEP encoded by primary miRNA
miPEP(microRNA-encoded peptide)is a micropeptide encoded by the 5'region of the primary miRNA transcript(pri-miRNA).It specifically interacts with its coding sequence, termed the micropeptide open reading frame(miORF),to regulate the expression of target genes. The external application of miPEP has been demonstrated to enhance the expression of pri-miRNA,contributing to increased accumulation of the corresponding miRNA.This process subsequently inhibits the expression of miRNA target genes, leading to modifications in plant phenotypic traits.miPEP plays a significant role in plant growth,develop-ment and resistance to abiotic stress. It has the potential to serve as an environmentally friendly and po-tent plant growth regulator that improves agronomic traits without relying on genetic approaches. In our review, the generation of miPEP,as well as the absorption and transport of exogenous miPEP were re-viewed.Additionally,the functions and mechanisms of miPEP identified in plants were summarized.
