The purpose of this study is to explore and compare the status of two representative forms of New Year paintings in Sichuan,namely Zitong New Year paintings and Mianzhu New Year paintings,their status in Chinese folk art and their aesthetic characteristics.The necessity of a comparative study of these two types of New Year paintings lies in the fact that through an in-depth analysis of their themes,styles,techniques and use of colors,the diversity and richness of Chinese folk art can be revealed,and their unique aesthetic pursuits and expressive techniques in different cultural contexts can be further understood.This study adopts a combination of literature analysis and field research to systematically sort out and compare the historical background,artistic characteristics and their positions in local culture of Zitong and Mianzhu New Year paintings.The similarities and differences between those two are finally concluded,and the aesthetic characteristics of the two are clarified in depth,reflecting the artistic characteristics of the two from the comparison.
