This paper discusses the central role of light in environmental design,analyses how its physical properties affect visual perception and emotional experience,and distinguishes between the use of natural light and artificial light strategies. Natural light gives the design a sense of natural beauty and energy-saving advantages,while the design of light environment needs to follow the principles of uniformity,moderate contrast and harmony of light and shadow. Strategies are proposed to solve the problems of light pollution. Looking ahead,intelligent,personalised and sustainable light environment design will be the trend,and interdisciplinary cooperation will promote its application to create a better living and working environment.
