The purpose of this paper is to discuss the protection and inheritance status,challenges and countermeasures of folk stories in Xiabaoping Township,Yiling District,Yichang City,Hubei Province as a national intangible cultural heritage. Through in-depth analysis of the historical origin,cultural characteristics,manifestations and social influence of Xiabaoping folk stories,combined with the relevant theories of intangible cultural heritage protection,this paper puts forward effective protection and inheritance strategies,with a view to providing reference for the protection of traditional folk literature in the Three Gorges area and even the whole country.
