Auslegung(Interpretation)and Erkl?rung(Explanation):A Case Study of the Conceptual History
The key concepts of contemporary philosophical hermeneutics—Auslegung(interpretation)and Erklärung(explanation)—can be analyzed both horizontally and vertically.Horizontally,they mark a distinction between the humanistic and spiritual sciences,with the natural sciences,echoing Dilthey's assertion:"We explain nature;we understand the life of the mind."Vertically,by examining the three stages in the development of the concept of interpretation—Auslegung,Erklärung,and Auslegung—we explore how contemporary hermeneutics aligns with Marx's imperative that philosophers should not only explain but also change the world.In order to effectively engage in the transformative action of"changing the world,"contemporary China must simultaneously cultivate the strength,ability,and discourse power which are necessary for"interpreting the world."
