Considerations for the Application of Component Network Meta-Analysis in Chinese Medicine
Utilizing scientific statistical methodologies and clinical research evidence to delineate the therapeutic merits of Chinese medicine(CM)is crucial for its modernization endeavors. The component network Meta-analysis(CNMA),an emerging approach for the synthesis of evidence concerning multi-component interventions, offers novel insights for quantitatively evaluating the efficacy of various therapeutic modalities within CM.The objective of this paper is to investigate the potential application of CNMA within the field of CM,while considering the unique characteristics of the discipline. The paper discusses key aspects of CNMA research, including empirical case studies, statistical strengths, and considerations for its application.Using a case study of acupuncture for primary insomnia, the findings demonstrate that CNMA can provide more precise effect estimates, isolate and quantify the effects of individual components, and integrate evidence from multiple independent networks. These insights provide guidance for conducting CNMA research in CM and advance the evaluation of clinical efficacy in the field.
