Effect of transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation combined with auricular acupoint embedding beans on gastrointestinal function in patients after craniotomy
Objective To observe the effect of transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation(TEAS)combined with auricular acupoint embedding beans intervention on the recovery of gastrointestinal function in patients after craniotomy. Methods Ninety-two patients who underwent craniotomy at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Naval Medical University from January 2021 to January 2023 were selected for retrospective analysis. They were divided into an observation group(46 cases)and a control group(46 cases)using a numerical random method. The patients in the control group only received routine treatment after surgery, and the patients in the observation group received TEAS and auricular acupoint embedding beans intervention on this basis. The time of first postoperative exhaust and defecation, recovery time of bowel sounds,Visual Analogue Scale(VAS)score, levels of plasma gastrin(GAS),motilin(MTL),substance P(SP),and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results After treatment, the first postoperative exhaust and defecation time and bowel sound recovery time in the observation group were earlier than those in the control group(all P<0.05).At 6,12,24,and 48 hours after surgery, the VAS scores of the observation group were lower than those of the control group(all P<0.05).At 48 hours after surgery, the levels of plasma GAS,MTL,and SP in both groups increased compared to before surgery(all P<0.05),but the above indicators in the observation group were lower than those in the control group(all P<0.05).The total incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting(PONV)within 24 hours in the observation group was 32.61%,lower than 54.35%in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion TEAS combined with auricular acupoint embedding beans intervention for patients after craniotomy can accelerate the recovery of gastrointestinal function, relieve pain, reduce the release of gastrointestinal hormones, and reduce the incidence of PONV.
