Application of strengthened health education combined with family stress coping training in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus
Objective To explore the application effect of strengthened health education combined with family stress coping training in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Methods Eighty children with type 1 diabetes mellitus at the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University from January 2019 to February 2023 were recruited. All children and their caregivers were assigned to control and observation groups by the use of a random number table, each with 40 cases. The control group received strengthened health education, while the observation group received strengthened health education combined with family stress coping training, with an intervention period of 3 months. The blood glucose related indicators, caregivers'burden, caregivers'mastery of diabetes knowledge, and caregivers'positive feelings were compared before and after 3 months of intervention. Results After 3 months of intervention, the fasting blood glucose,2-h postprandial blood glucose, and glycosylated hemoglobin in the two groups of children were decreased compared with those before intervention, and the above blood glucose related indicators of the observation group were lower than those of the control group, with statistical differences(all P<0.05).After 3 months of intervention, the Zarit Burden Interview scores in the two groups of caregivers were decreased compared with those before intervention, and their mastery of diabetes knowledge and the Positive Aspects of Caregiving Scale scores were increased compared with those before intervention. The above scale scores of the caregivers in the observation group were higher than those in the control group. The above comparisons were statistically different(all P<0.05).Conclusion Strengthened health education combined with family stress coping training can better improve the blood glucose level of children with type 1 diabetes mellitus, alleviate the care burden of caregivers, and improve the mastery of diabetes knowledge and positive feelings of caregivers.
