Evaluation of the effect of external application of yellow ointment on preventing perianal skin damage caused by diarrhea in critically ill patients
Objective To evaluate the effect of external application of yellow ointment on preventing perianal skin damage caused by diarrhea in critically ill patients. Methods A total of 80 critically ill patients(with diarrhea symptoms)admitted to the intensive care unit of Maoming Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from March 2021 to March 2023 were selected as the study subjects, and a clinical trial random coding table was used to divide them into a control group and an intervention group, with 40 cases in each group. The control group received skin care with hip protection cream, while the intervention group received skin care with yellow ointment. The perianal skin damage and other conditions after nursing were compared between the two groups. Results The incidence of perianal skin damage in the intervention group was lower than that in the control group, and the total incidence of related complications in the intervention group was also lower than that in the control group. The data comparison showed statistical differences(both P<0.05).The intervention group had shorter skin damage time and earlier relief of skin discomfort compared to the control group, and the medical expenses in the intervention group were lower than those in the control group. The data comparison showed statistical differences(all P<0.05).The skin damage area, exudate volume, and appearance score of the intervention group were lower than those of the control group, and the data comparison showed statistical differences(all P<0.05).Conclusion Applying yellow ointment to critically ill patients with diarrhea can not only prevent the occurrence of perianal skin damage, shorten the time of perianal skin damage, promote rapid relief of skin discomfort, but also reduce the severity of skin damage, reduce the incidence of related complications, and have lower medical costs.
