Application of traditional Chinese medicine five-tone therapy combined with acupoint application based on the"turbid toxin"theory in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease
Objective Based on the"turbid toxin"theory proposed by Chinese medicine master Li Diangui, this study aims to explore the application value of traditional Chinese medicine five-tone therapy combined with acupoint application in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD)of liver and stomach stagnated heat type. Methods A total of 56 patients with GERD of liver and stomach stagnated heat type who visited Shenzhen Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine(Futian)from March 2019 to March 2021 were enrolled. They were divided into observation and control groups via using a random number table, with 28 cases in each group. Both groups received routine GERD intervention, and the observation group additionally received traditional Chinese medicine five-tone therapy combined with acupoint application based on the"turbid toxin"theory. The traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores, the Reflux Disease Questionnaire(RDQ)scores, the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS)scores, the Self-Rating Depression Scale(SDS)scores, and the satisfaction rate were compared between the two groups. Results After 8 weeks of intervention, the major and minor syndrome scores of traditional Chinese medicine, the RDQ scores(except cardiogenic chest pain),the SAS scores, and the SDS scores of the observation group were lower than those of the control group(all P<0.05),and the above scores of both groups were lower than those before intervention(all P<0.05).The satisfaction rate of the observation group after 8 weeks of intervention was higher than that of the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion The combination of traditional Chinese medicine five-tone therapy and acupoint application based on the"turbid toxin"theory can relieve the symptoms of patients with GERD of liver and stomach stagnated heat type, reduce their psychological burden, and increase their satisfaction rate.
