Effect of follow-up empowering education on the rehabilitation of rectal cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy
Objective To explore the effect of follow-up empowering education on the self-care ability, nutritional status, serum tumor marker levels, and adverse reactions of patients undergoing chemotherapy for rectal cancer. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on 80 rectal cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy in the Department of Digestive Oncology of Tongji Hospital,Tongji Medical College,Huazhong University of Science and Technology from April 2019 to May 2022.They were divided into a control group(40 cases receiving conventional nursing)and an observation group(40 cases receiving conventional nursing+follow-up empowering education)in accordance with different nursing models. The Exercise of Self-Care Agency(ESCA)scores,Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment(PG-SGA)scores,nutritional indicators, tumor marker levels, and adverse reactions of all patients were compared. Results After 1 and 3 months of intervention, the ESCA score and nutritional indicator levels of the observation group were higher than those of the control group, and the PG-SGA score and tumor marker levels were lower than those of the control group(all P<0.05).The above scores and indicator levels in both groups showed significant improvement compared with those before intervention(all P<0.05).The total incidence of adverse reactions in the observation group was lower than that in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Follow-up empowering education has a positive impact on the nutritional status and self-care ability of rectal cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, and helps to improve their serum tumor marker levels and reduce the adverse reactions.
