Vocational Education Development and New-quality Productivity Improvement——Evidence from 274 Cities in China
Using data from 274 cities in China from 2010 to 2022,the impact of vocational education development on the level of urban new quality productivity and its action mechanism were analyzed.The findings show that vocational education significantly enhances urban new quality productivity,and the conclusions that still holds after robustness testing.The mechanism analysis reveals that vocational education enhances the level of urban new quality productivity by promoting the marketization of technological achievements and the digitalization of industries.Heterogeneity analysis shows that the impact of vocational education development on urban new quality productivity exhibits multi-dimensional heterogeneity.Vocational education contributes more significantly to the central and western regions,to cities that invest heavily in education,and to cities with higher new quality productivity quartiles.Based on this,we should closely adhere to social needs and vigorously promote the high-quality development of vocational education;smooth transformation channels and fully leverage the mechanism of vocational education to accelerate the marketization of technological achievements and industrial digitization;develop differentiated vocational education development policies based on comparative advantages.
