Analysis of the Contribution of Liezi to the Inheritance and Inspiration of Taoism
Liezi is an important philosopher from the Central Plains in the Axial Age of Human Civilization era, serving as a key figure in the extension of the Taoist school from Laozi to Zhuangzi. Liezi inherited Laozi's Taoist philosophy. He used concepts like Laozi's"Grain God"and"Mysterious Female"to vividly analyze how"Dao"generates all things in heaven and earth. Liezi inspired Zhuangzi, providing him a foundation for dissemination of Taoist thought, inspiring materials, theoretical inspiration, and fables to express his thoughts. The characteristics of Liezi's thought can be briefly summarized in the following three aspects:firstly,an optimistic life philosophy that incorporates secular elements of the human world;secondly, reverence for skills and its historical and practical value;thirdly,an important cultural status that deserves reassessment. The proverb of"there are people of virtue in Puze,Zheng nation, and talents in Dongli"by Liezi is comparable to the saying in Hunan culture,"Chu is home to talents, wellspring of wisdom". The fable of Yu Gong moving mountains became the main theme of the closing speech of the Seventh National Congress of the Communist Party of China. It is an important resource for contemporary revolutionary spirit and a spiritual driving force for scholars in the central plains to enhance cultural confidence in the new era and make new contributions to the creation and cultivation of modern civilization of the Chinese nation.
