The Old Dynasty and the New Dynasty:A Study of Dual Chronology of Donghun Hou's Biography and He Di's Biography in Nanqi Shu
Nanqi Shu adopts a dual chronological method in the two volumes of Donghun Hou's Biography and He Di's Biography,which diverges from the compilation principle of the chronicle historical book of emperors. Xiao Zixian,the author of Nanqi Shu,is the grandson of Xiao Daocheng,the Gaozu of the Southern Qi Dynasty,and later he served as an official in Xiao Liang Dynasty. Because of his identity and experience and the sensitive transitional era from Qi to Liang dynasty,he inevitably fell into the dilemma of maintaining orthodox expression,while documenting the historical events. The dual chronology of Donghun Hou's Biography and He Di's Biography is his flexible means to solve the problem.
