Guardians'willingness of age-appropriate children to vaccinate against varicella in Qianjiang District of Chongqing in 2023
Objective To investigate guardians'perceptions of varicella, their willingness to vaccinate and the influencing factors of vaccination in age-eligible children in Qianjiang District of Chongqing,to provide a basis for the formulation of local vaccination and health promotion strategies. Methods From June to September 2023,an online questionnaire survey was conducted by using simple random sampling on guardians of children enrolled in nursery school in Qianjiang District in 2023.Logistic regression model was used to analyse the willingness and influencing factors of varicella vaccination.Data were analyzed by using SPSS 26.0 software, the test level α=0.05.Results The overall knowledge rate of varicella was 60.92%(21.77%-88.87%)among the 2 462 guardians in this study, and almost 50%of guardians believed that children would be re-vaccinated against varicella after having had chickenpox. The overall willingness rate of children to be vaccinated against varicella was 95.49%(2 351/2 462),and Logistic regression analysis showed that guardians who believed that chickenpox was contagious, that VarV vaccination was effective, and that children had already been vaccinated had a higher willingness to vaccinate(all P<0.05),where as guardians of company employees(OR=3.70,95%CI:1.03-13.43,P=0.045)and children who had never had varicella(OR=6.14,95%CI:2.93-12.87,P<0.001)and who were unsure whether they have had varicella in the past(OR=2.65,95%CI:1.01-6.96,P=0.048)were less likely to be vaccinated.More than one-third of the reasons for not being vaccinated were due to the need to pay for the vaccine by their own. Conclusions The high willingness to vaccinate against varicella among guardians of age-eligible children in Qianjiang District is conducive to the expansion of varicella vaccination. However, knowledge about varicella is incomplete, and publicity and education efforts should be enhanced significantly.
