Allergic Rhinitis is a common,frequently occurring,and difficult-to-treat condition clinically.Tradition-al Chinese Medicine(TCM)offers unique advantages in treating allergic rhinitis.However,challenges remain in address-ing some typical symptoms of allergic rhinitis.Gan Zuwang introduced the concept of"excessive Nasal Discharge Syn-drome"based on the symptom where rhinitis patients have a profuse clear nasal discharge.He believed that treatment for excessive nasal discharge should focus on issues related to kidney deficiency and overflow,as well as coldness in the kidney affecting the brain.Based on Gan Zuwang's"Clear Discharge Attributed to the Kidney"theory,literature was reviewed to further validate and enrich the theoretical foundation of TCM on this topic.The findings suggest that the pathological mechanism of clear nasal discharge often stems from kidney qi deficiency,insufficient kidney yang,and coldness in the kidney affecting the brain.By examining Gan Zuwang's clinical cases and his frequent prescriptions for excessive nasal discharge in rhinitis,it is evident that he predominantly utilized treatments to warm yang and nourish qi,fortify the kid-neys,and consolidate fluids,aiming to strengthen kidney yang and reduce clear nasal discharge.
