Pharmacognostical Studies of Paris polyphylla var. latifolia from Shaanxi Province
Objective:To research the pharmacognostical characteristics of crude medicine of Parispolyphylla var.latifolia from Shaanxi Province. Methods:The morphology, pharmacognosy and microscopic characteristics of the rhizome of P.polyphylla var.latifolia from Shaanxi Province were studied by morphology and histology identification. And HPLC was adopted in the content determination of the total content of 4 saponins (polyphyllinsⅠ, Ⅱ, Ⅵ, Ⅶ).Results:The plant origin of P.polyphylla var.latifolia from Shaanxi Province was explicited. The microscopic characteristics of the rhizome as follows:In the transection section, suberification epidermis, wide cortex and discontinuous endodermis, and some stele of amphivasal vascular bundle in the parenchyma tissue were observed. And a great many simple starch grains were observed in the powder, common calcium oxialate acicular crystal, annular vessel and spiral vessel. In addition, the total content of 4 saponins (polyphyllinsⅠ, Ⅱ, Ⅵ, Ⅶ) reached 3.0%.Conclusion:P.polyphylla var.latifolia from Shaanxi Province have definite origin sources, stable pharmacognostical characteristics and specific microstructures, and content of 4 saponins (polyphyllinsⅠ, Ⅱ, Ⅵ, Ⅶ) met the requirement of Chinese Pharmacopoeia (2015).The results explain that P.polyphylla var.latifolia is used as Paridis Rhizoma recorded in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia (2015) is reasonable, and may lay a foundation for formulating the quality standard of crude rhizome medicine of P.polyphylla var.latifolia.
