Impact of Electron Beam Irradiation on the Main Active Ingredients of Urtica tibetica and Its Sterilization Effect
Objective:To explore the impact of electron beam irradiation on the main active ingredients of Urtica tibetica W.T.Wang and its sterilization effect. Methods:The U.tibetica powder was treated with electron beam irradiation at doses of 0,2,4,6,8,and 10 kGy.The characteristics, total flavonoids, chlorogenic acid, isovitexin, and astragaloside, fingerprints, and microbial levels of the samples before and after irradiation were compared. Results:After different doses of electron beam irradiation, there were no significant changes in the characteristics, total flavonoids and chlorogenic acid, isovitexin, and astragaloside of U.Tibetica powder. The similarity of the fingerprint reached 0.996 or above, and the number of bacterial colonies and the total number of fungal and yeast colonies decreased(P<0.01).When the irradiation dose reached 6 kGy,the microbial levels met the requirements of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia(2020 edition). Conclusion:The electron beam irradiation at different doses had no significant impact on the main active ingredients of U.tibetica, and excellent sterilization effect was observed at 6 kGy.This paper provided a reference for the irradiation sterilization technology of U.tibetica and its preparations.
