Research Progress in Mechanism of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Prevention and Treatment of Hemorrhoids
Hemorrhoids are a chronic disease mainly characterized by varicosity of the anal mucosal venous plexus. With the prolongation of the disease course, the patients with hemorrhoids will suffer from hematochezia, swelling pain, mucus discharge and other pathological changes. The clinical manifestations include pruritus, pain, and hematochezia.Surgery, one of the effective ways to treat hemorrhoids, can relieve the patient's pain and exert the curative effect. However, the operation is expensive, and the patients are prone to postoperative bleeding, anal stenosis, and other discomfort.Traditional Chinese medicine plays a role in the treatment of hemorrhoids via multiple targets and multiple ways,in which the mechanisms include regulating internal and external inflammation, reducing lipid peroxidation, inhibiting the expression of matrix metalloproteinases, modulating angiogenesis, and up-regulating the expression of fibulin. At present, the research on the mechanism of hemorrhoids is deepening, while the pathogenesis of this disease and the intervention mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine have not been systematically expounded. The review of relevant research is of great significance for the prevention and treatment of hemorrhoids.
