Research Progress in Regulation of Primary Dysmenorrhea-Related Pathways by Traditional Chinese Medicine
Primary dysmenorrhea(PD),a common gynecological disease characterized by long-term and periodic episodes, seriously affects the quality of life and the physical and mental health of patients.Due to the high incidence of adverse reactions and recurrence rate in Western medicine treatment, traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)has become an alternative therapy for clinical treatment of PD with unique safety and effectiveness.According to the recent studies in this field,TCM can treat PD by regulating the mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)signaling pathway,NOD-like receptor protein 3(NLRP3)signaling pathway, transcription factor-κB(NF-κB)signaling pathway, and arachidonic acid metabolism pathway, thus reducing inflammatory cytokines and pain signals and inhibiting uterine smooth muscle contraction. This review is expected to provide a reference for the future research on the mechanism of TCM treatment of PD.
