Research on the value of Gancao nurishing-Yin decoction in the intervention of rheumatoid arthritis
Objective Exploring the efficacy of integrative therapy in combination with Gancao nurishing-Yin decoction(GCNY)for rheumatoid arthritis. Methods A clinical study involving 70 patients diagnosed with rheu-matoid arthritis was conducted to use own-history as control. The control group was treated with conventional Western medicine for the first 4 months, and the observation group was given GCNY on top of conventional West-ern medicine for the second 4 months.Bimonthly follow-up assessments included erythrocyte sedimentation rate,C-reactive protein, rheumatoid factor, platelet, hemoglobin, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransami-nase,blood urea nitrogen, and serum creatinine levels.Statistical analysis was performed using generalized esti-mating equations to compare the indicators between the two groups. The incidence of adverse reactions was com-pared using the chi-square test. Results Erythrocyte sedimentation rate was significantly lower in the observation group compared to the control group at months 2 and 4[(43.6±29.4)vs.(67.9±34.1),P<0.001;(44.9±30.7)vs.(62.3±34.2),P=0.010].C-reactive protein was significantly lower in the observation group compared to the control group at months 2 and 4[(10.4±17.8)vs.(26.5±37.8),P=0.009;(10.4±10.3)vs.(18.0±24.9),P=0.037].Platelet was significantly lower in the observation group compared to the control group at baseline and months 2.The differences in hemoglobin, rheumatoid factor, alanine amin-otransferase,aspartate aminotransaminase, serum creatinine, and blood urea nitrogen between the two groups were not statistically significant. The observation group had significantly fewer adverse reactions compared to the control group. Conclusion Integrative therapy in combination with GCNY helps to reduce RA-related inflammato-ry markers with a good safety profile.
