Non invasive diagnosis and therapeutic evaluation of vulvar leukoplakia based on dermatoscopy
Vulvar leukoplakia is a common gynecological disease, which could be clinically diagnosed based on the patient's symptoms and signs. However, pathological examination of the external genitalia(vulvar biopsy)is the gold standard for diagnosis and also the objective indicator for evaluating its therapeutic effects.Due to the invasive nature of vulvar biopsy and the particularity of the female external genitalia, both the initial biopsy based on diagnostic purposes and re-biopsy based on efficacy evaluation have significant resistance in clinical applica-tion,which goes against the humanitarian spirit and the concept of minimally invasive medical development. In view of this, the team, based on nearly 30 years of experience in non-invasive treatment of this disease by using self-made traditional Chinese medicine ointment, took the lead in proposing the concept of using dermatoscopy for non-invasive diagnosis and efficacy evaluation of this disease, and conducted a series of pioneering studies,a-chieving corresponding research results. This article was a review written based on the current research status of vulvar leukoplakia and the research results of the team.It is hoped that this review will raise the attention of the obstetrics and gynecology community to the use of dermatoscopy for non-invasive diagnosis and efficacy evaluation of vulvar leukoplakia, and gradually improve the popularity and accuracy of its research and application, and serves clinical practice and benefit the patients finally.
