Inflamed vital pulp therapy of young permanent teeth with chronic periapical inflammation:a case report
Objective To report the clinical manifestations, radiographic features, and treatment course of a case(a 7-year-old child)of chronic periapical periodontitis on the first permanent molar. Methods A child diag-nosed with chronic apical periodontitis of the first permanent molar was finally treated with inflammatory vital pulp preservation after detailed clinical examination, imaging and intraoperative observation of the pulpal status. Results After 4 years of follow-up,it was found that the roots of the first permanent molar continued to develop, the apical foramen was closed, and the periapical shadow disappeared, indicating that the treatment was success-ful.Conclusion When a young permanent tooth is diagnosed with apical periodontitis,a combination of other as-pects such as imaging and intraoperative observation of the pulpal status may be considered in order to get a com-plete picture of the condition of the pulp.Inflammatory vital pulp preservation may be attempted first to preserve the root's opportunity for continued physiologic development.
