Analysis of the current status and influencing factors of public knowledge,belief,practice and self-efficacy of the heimlich maneuver
Objective To examine the level of the public's heimlich maneuver knowledge,attitude,self-effica-cy,and behavioral intention and analyze its influencing factor.Methods From September to October 2023,a cross-sectional survey was conducted among 2887 members of the public in Guizhou,China,using a convenient sampling method.A self-designed questionnaire was used to measure the public's knowledge,attitudes,self-ef-ficacy,and behavioral intentions of the Heimlich maneuver.Multiple regression analysis was applied to deter-mine the influencing factors.Results The total score for the public's knowledge,attitude,practice,and self-ef-ficacy regarding the heimlich maneuver was (78.55±11.30)points,with knowledge scoring (15.68±4.99) points,attitude (40.80±4.69 )points,practice (9.03±1.11 )points,and self-efficacy (13.04±4.19 ) points.Regression analysis showed that the common influencing factors on the public's scores for knowledge,at-titude,practice,and self-efficacy regarding the heimlich maneuver were having a bachelor's degree or higher,living in rural areas,having fair health status,being unaware of the heimlich maneuver,and not having partici-pated in training on the heimlich maneuver (P<0.05).Conclusion The public's knowledge and self-efficacy regarding the heimlich maneuver are at a moderate level.Relevant departments need to increase the intensity of training on knowledge,attitude,practice,and self-efficacy for groups with a bachelor's degree or lower,living in rural areas,having fair health status,being unaware of the heimlich maneuver,and not having participated in training on the heimlich maneuver,in order to effectively enhance the public's ability for self-rescue and mutual aid.
