Advances in the application of transcriptomics and proteomics in toxicity studies of traditional Chinese medicine
With the widespread use of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM)in China, its potential toxic risks have gradually gained attention. There is a lack of safe, efficient, and sensitive technical systems for studying the toxicity detection and molecular mechanisms of TCM.Transcriptomics, which studies gene transcription and its regulation, and proteomics, which studies the composition, structure, function, and interactions of proteins in organisms, provide new perspectives and methods for the deep investigation of TCM toxicity. The combined ap-plication of the two can not only compensate for the differences between gene expression and protein expression caused by post-transcriptional regulation, translation efficiency, and other factors, but also provide a more com-prehensive understanding of the molecular changes in organisms under toxic insults, allowing for a more precise study of toxic mechanisms at the molecular level. This article reviews recent research progress on the toxicity of TCM and the application and progress of transcriptomics and proteomics in studying the toxicity of TCM,aiming to provide a scientific basis for the safe use of TCM.
