Research Progress on the Regulation of Autophagy by Traditional Chinese Medicine in the Treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)is a common and frequently-occurring respiratory disease with high incidence and difficult to cure.Autophagy has a dual role in COPD and is closely related to the pathogenesis of COPD.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)in the treatment of COPD has the characteristics of significant efficacy,less adverse reactions,and bidirectional regulation of autophagy related targets.In this paper,the specific molecular mechanism of TCM's influence on autophagy in COPD was summarized,and it was found that its function was mainly embodied in promoting and inhibiting autophagy of cells.On the one hand,TCM can promote autophagy,accelerate the clearance of inflammatory protein aggregates,down-regulate the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines,and reduce inflammatory response.On the other hand,by exerting its inhibitory effect on autophagy,TCM can reduce airway inflammation,inhibit cell apoptosis,and reduce lung tissue damage.
