Treatment of Mild to Moderate Depression of Liver Stagnation and Spleen Deficiency Type Using Spirit Regulating and Depression Resolving Flying Acupuncture with Respiratory Supplementation and Draining Method and Catgut Embedment in Acupoint
Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of combining the spirit regulating and depression resolving flying acupuncture with respiratory supplementation and draining method and catgut embedment in acupoints with Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors(SSRIs)for treating mild to moderate depression of liver stagnation and spleen deficiency type. Methods:Eighty patients with mild to moderate depression who met the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into a control group and a treatment group, with 40 cases in each group.During the treatment,2 cases dropped out from each group. Both groups received oral SSRIs treatment. The control group additionally received electroacupuncture therapy, while the treatment group additionally received the spirit regulating and depression resolving flying acupuncture with respiratory supplementation and draining method and catgut embedment in acupoint. Both groups were treated for 4 weeks. The Hamilton Depression Rating Scale(HAMD),Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale(HAMA),and Clinical Global Impression(CGI)scores were compared at the end of weeks 1,2,3,and 4,and clinical efficacy was assessed. Results:After treatment, both groups showed a decrease in HAMD and HAMA scores(P<0.01).Compared to the control group, the treatment group had more significant reductions in HAMD scores at the end of weeks 2,3,and 4(P<0.05,P<0.01)and in HAMA scores at the end of weeks 3 and 4(P<0.01).Both groups had a decrease in CGI scores(P<0.01),with the treatment group showing a more significant reduction in CGI scores at the end of weeks 1,2,3,and 4 compared to the control group(P<0.01).The total effective rate was 100%(38/38)in the treatment group, significantly higher than 89.47%(31/38)in the control group(P<0.01).Conclusion:Combining spirit regulating and depression resolving flying acupuncture with respiratory supplementation and draining method and catgut embedment in acupoint with SSRIs is effective in improving depressive and anxiety symptoms in patients with mild to moderate depression and Liver Qi Stagnation and Spleen Qi Deficiency syndrome.
