Combined Effect of Copper-Gua Sha Therapy and Pubescent Angelica and Tailus Decoction on Neck and Shoulder Pain Caused by Nerve-Root Type Cervical Spondylosis of Wind-Cold-Dampness Type
Objective:To investigate the effects of combined Copper-Gua Sha therapy and Pubescent Angelica and Tailus Decoction on pain symptoms and sleep quality in patients with neck and shoulder pain caused by nerve-root type cervical spondylosis. Methods:A total of 130 patients with neck and shoulder pain caused by nerve-root type cervical spondylosis who met the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into a control group and a study group, with 65 patients in each group, using a random number table. The control group received Pubescent Angelica and Tailus Decoction and cervical health exercise rehabilitation intervention, while the study group received the same in addition to Copper-Gua Sha therapy. Both interventions lasted for 2 weeks. The changes in Neck Pain Questionnaire(NPQ)scores,Visual Analog Scale(VAS)scores, and Neck Disability Index(NDI)scores were compared at 3,7,and 14 days of intervention.Additionally, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)was compared between the two groups 30 days after the intervention. Results:Compared with the control group, the study group had significantly lower NPQ,VAS,and NDI scores at 3,7,and 14 days of intervention(P<0.05,P<0.001).The within-subject effects(F-time points,F-interaction)and between-subject effects(F-group)of NPQ,VAS,and NDI scores were statistically significant(P<0.001).Compared with pre-treatment,both groups showed reductions in PSQI subscales including sleep latency, sleep duration, subjective sleep quality, sleep disturbances, use of sleep medications, daytime dysfunction, and total score(P<0.05),with the study group showing a reduction in sleep efficiency(P<0.05).The study group also had significantly lower PSQI scores for sleep duration, subjective sleep quality, sleep efficiency, sleep disturbances, use of sleep medications, daytime dysfunction, and total score compared to the control group after 30 days of intervention(P<0.05).Conclusion:Copper-Gua Sha therapy combined with Pubescent Angelica and Tailus Decoction Decoction can significantly improve pain symptoms and sleep quality in patients with neck and shoulder pain caused by nerve-root type cervical spondylosis, and promote functional recovery.
