Experimental Observation of Ultrasonic Nebulization with Compound Lycii Fructus Fumigation Preparation in the Treatment of Hyperevaporative Dry Eye Model in Rats
Objective:To explore the effects of ultrasonic nebulization with Compound Lycii Fructus Fumigation Preparation on corneal condition and tear film quality in a rat model of hyperevaporative dry eye. Methods:Forty clean-grade SD male rats(80 eyes)were randomly divided into four groups:control group, model group, sodium hyaluronate eye drop group, and herbal nebulization group. All groups except the control group were induced into an hyperevaporative dry eye model by mechanical prevention of blinking. After successful modeling, the model group received no treatment;the sodium hyaluronate eye drop group received sodium hyaluronate eye drops, three times daily, one drop per time;the herbal nebulization group received Compound Lycii Fructus Fumigation Preparation nebulization twice daily,20 minutes each time.Observations of tear film break-up time, corneal injury scores, and tear pH were conducted before intervention, after 2 days of intervention, after 1 week, and after 2 weeks. Results:Tear Film Break-up Time:After 2 days of herbal nebulization, tear film break-up time significantly increased in both herbal nebulization and sodium hyaluronate eye drop groups compared with the model group(P<0.001).No significant differences were observed between the sodium hyaluronate eye drop group and herbal nebulization group at 1 and 2 weeks. The most significant effect of the herbal nebulization treatment was observed after 2 days, with tear film break-up time close to that of the control group.Corneal Injury Score:After 2 days of herbal nebulization, the corneal injury score significantly decreased in the herbal nebulization group compared to the model group, with no significant change in the sodium hyaluronate eye drop group. Both herbal nebulization and sodium hyaluronate groups showed significantly reduced corneal injury scores at 1 and 2 weeks(P<0.001),with herbal nebulization group showing greater improvement.Tear pH:After 2 days of herbal nebulization, tear pH significantly decreased in the herbal nebulization group compared to the model group, with no significant change in the sodium hyaluronate eye drop group. The tear pH continued to decrease in the herbal nebulization group at 1 and 2 weeks, with no change in the sodium hyaluronate eye drop group;the herbal nebulization treatment showed the most significant effect after 2 weeks, with a more marked reduction in tear pH.Conclusion:Ultrasonic nebulization with Compound Lycii Fructus Fumigation Preparation effectively prolongs tear film break-up time, improves corneal injury scores, and reduces tear pH in dry eye models, showing superior therapeutic efficacy compared to sodium hyaluronate eye drops.
