Effect of Ceramic Core on the Size and Quality of Annular Titanium Alloy Castings with Inner Groove
This article focused on the narrow U-shaped groove structure of a certain circular titanium al-loy casting, and conducted research on the casting forming process based on external ceramic cores.Special ceramic cores with different lengths and structures were designed to analyze their impact on the size and metallurgical quality of the casting. The casting with external long ceramic cores was selected to observe the key position forming quality and α-case of interface. The result showed that the risk of internal casting of U-shaped grooves has decreased from over 70%to less than 5%.When placing a long ceramic core, the shrinkage of the inner surface in contact with the core changed from-0.05 mm to+0.08 mm,resulting in a positive contour that better fits the expected value. The overall wall thickness was reduced by 0.1 mm,and the radial shrinkage rate increased by about 3.33%.The α-case was only distributed at the bottom and adja-cent areas in the U-shaped groove with long ceramic cores, overall thickness of which not exceeding 400 μm.The α-case of bilateral contact area with long ceramic core almost disappeared.Placing long ceramic cores in the specific narrow U-shaped groove yielded better casting quality compared to not placing a ce-ramic core or placing a short ceramic core.
