To investigate the compressive behavior of concrete-filled square weathering steel tubular(CFWT)stub columns, compression tests on 4 specimens were conducted. And then,Finite element(FE)models were established using Abaqus software to analyze the compressive performance of composite columns.Based on the experimental investigation and numerical simulation, research results indicated that the composite columns were generally considered to experience three stages until failure:elastic stage,elastic-plastic stage and failure stage. The failure modes of all the specimens showed the local buckling.Besides, there was no obvious difference of mechanical performance between weathering steel and carbon steel, and therefore FE models with constitutive relation of carbon steel can accurately simulate the behavior of concrete-filled square weathering steel tubular stub columns. Moreover, using stirrups can help to improve the ultimate bearing capacity and ductility of composite columns, and also enhance the confinement effect of steel tube on the core concrete. And lastly,no significant difference of compressive behavior between CFWT stub column and CFT stub column was observed.
