From Suzhou to Huzhou:The Historical Transformation of the Zhang Dun family
Zhang Dun moved to Suzhou from his father.The accumulation of three generations of officials and exami-nations made the Zhangdun family gradually strong.He and his cousin Zhang Jie were called"North and south Zhangs"of Suzhou.They are extremely powerful and very influential in regional society.The Zhangs also acquired and repaired the pavilion of Canglang,making it a popular resort.During this period,the Zhangs took Suzhou as their center of activities.Due to the political loss of Zhang Dun and the imprison-ment of the imperial court,his family chose to leave Suzhou and migrate to Huzhou to live.In the Southern Song dynasty,although Zhang Dun's descendants suffered various blows and restrictions,they still main-tained a certain social reputation and tried to restore the ownership of pavilion of Canglang.During this pe-riod,Zhang Dun's descendants turned into examination families,taking reading,examination and history as their careers,and they actively married with the scholar family.During this period,the Zhangs took Hu-zhou as their center of activities.The transfer of geographical space reflects the fate change of Zhang Dun's family.
