Fang Guoyu's Yunnan Local Chronicle Compilation Activities and Thought
Since modern times,Fang Guoyu has participated in the compilation of the New Compiled Yunnan Local Chronicle and the Continued Comprehensive Records of Yunnan Local Chronicle,and was responsible for writing Territorial Evolution,Epigraphy,Religious Studies,and Clan Studies.While participated in the com-pilation of the chronicles,Fang Guoyu started organizing local historical materials of Yunnan,judged the quality of the Yunnan chronicles of the past dynasties,and compiled two books:An Overview of Yunnan Historical Materials Directory and Collected Yunnan Historical Materials,which made significant contribu-tions to the study of Yunnan's local history.Fang Guoyu applied the theory of"holistic development of Chi-nese history"during the chronicle studies,emphasized the unity of the Chinese nation and viewed local chronicles as historical books with the nature of local history.In terms of the compilation method of the chronicles,he proposed extensive collection and rigorous textual research for data collection.Regarding the content of the chronicles,based on Yunnan's specific situation,he suggested a detailed ancient and con-cise modern approach,aimed to preserve valuable ancient Yunnan documents and advocated the mutual referencing method of historical books in the compilation of chronicles.
