Deletion and Retention of Poeticness:Version Evolution of Feng Zhi's Wu Zixu and the Writer's Mentality Changes
During more than 40 years from 1940s to 1980s,Feng Zhi's novel Wu Zixu was published many times,thus forming various versions.Among them,the text changes between"Wensheng"version in 1946,"Selected Poems"version in 1955 and"Anthology"version in 1985 are the most complicated.The"Wensheng"version embodies a state of mixed poetry and reality,which is the result of Feng Zhi gradually abandoning metaphysics and turning to reality in the historical context of the 1940s.The"Selected Poems"version deletes and revises a lot of the contents related to feeling and contemplation in Wu Zixu,objectively downplays the poeticness of the novel,and reflected Feng Zhi's determination to transform himself according to political requirements in the 1950s.The"Anthology"version eliminates the political discourse permeated in the"Selected Poems"version,restores some deleted contents in the"Wensheng"version,and objectively retains the poeticness of the novel,which reflects the rejection of the historical discourse in the 1950s and 1960s by the discourse in the new period and is the result of Feng Zhi's denial of the"old self"again.
