Study on the Image Meaning of the Breakpoints of"One Shot"in the Film 1917
Sam Mendes,the director of the anti-war film 1917 released in 2020,used the technique of"one shot"to complete the war narrative for nearly two hours.He used three black field transitions to form breakpoints in continuous scenes in order to drive the narrative rhythm and promote the plot development,and complete the expression of the other's meaning in the defamiliarization effect formed by the black field transition.Sam Mendes did not limit the image meaning of"one shot"to time authenticity and spatial objectivity.He achieved time condensation and space conversion at the breakpoints of the film,and expressed the plot meaning with ingenious image representation,realizing the high integration of technical means and artistic skills.
