The Writings of Ming-Qing Poetry in the Chinese Literature History in the English-Speaking World
In more than 120 years from 1901,when British sinologist Herbert Giles first introduced the poetry of the Ming and Qing dynasties in his A History of Chinese Literature,to 2022,when Chinese Hong Kong scholar Zhang Longxi wrote the poetry of the Ming and Qing dynasties in his A History of Chinese Literature,there are seven works of Chinese literature history in the English-speaking world,which pay close attention to the poetry of the Ming and Qing dynasties. At various stages of its beginning,development and deepening,the English books of Chinese literature history write poems of the Ming and Qing dynasties,from a brief introduction of the poets and their works to concrete criticism and rich historical accounts,which reflects the academic process of systematization and deepening step by step. The writing of literary history books reflects the research styles of different editors,and reflects the characteristics and historical changes of scholars in the English-speaking world in the evaluation of poetry in Ming and Qing dynasties.
